When is this happening?
A WHOLE NEW WORLD
There is extreme change happening across the globe. Its as though the world is pregnant with something totally different, with all pregnancies change is eminent- there is an incubation period, there is a pain and birthing period and there is a relief, joy and love for new life period. And like a new mum to be, it has been a challenging journey for us all. This has been a difficult few weeks for us at Kids Active- having to close Canning Vale and Providence centres until further notice and then "losing" so many families at our ELC for a period. But we are all optimistic and are filled with HOPE despite what we see around us. A new life is on its way and this excites us even through the birthing pains.
From Monday, 6th April - how we used to operate no longer exists. The way we take and make bookings, our invoicing process, our previous software, rosters, menu etc all changes. A whole new system will be in place as per the government announcement on 2nd April. I will take some time to detail the changes and the impact below.
FEES
This was the best news for all our families - please know I am so happy that something has been offered to help each and every one of you - you deserve the help.
What this means for you?
All bookings up until Sunday 5th April 2020 will remain how it was (according to old system and process). The final week is processed latest Sunday evening and that’s it – done. (That is until we hear differently or new legislation comes into place)
As of Monday 6th April 2020, there is no longer a Child Care Subsidy (CCS), no hours based on activity tests, no gap payments for parents to make.
All direct debits for accounts up to date have been stopped. For those accounts on specific payment plans, or who have a debt outstanding - this will continue until the account is brought up to date.
You can no longer be charged for fees as of Monday 6th April 2020, for however long the Government decides.
What does that mean for us?
The Government has stopped all child care services from receiving revenue the way we were previously. We are now told that every service will receive only 50% of the Fee Revenue, calculated as at a certain point in time (February/March fortnight).
This is the "new figure" we as Kids Active will then receive each week.
By doing this, it (hopefully) automatically puts all businesses into being able to access the new, yet to pass, Job Keeper payment of $1500 a fortnight, per eligible staff member.
This is what effects our staff.
Some will need to be stood down, others will need to have their hours cut as to survive this.
We can no longer do what we have always done and provide them with full salaries or operate at the higher educator to child ratios that we have in the past (extra staff for stronger child to educator relationships).
Due to having a limit put on our weekly revenue, we need to review cost cutting measures wherever possible so we can make it and see the light at the end of the tunnel.
How are our staff members?
We are the luckiest employer in the whole world and we have an incredible team. This team has put their hands up to change their hours and do whatever is needed for our whole team to see the other side of this health (and economic) crisis. This includes some of them choosing to get 0 hours so others could keep theirs.
I have to say how much I love this team and appreciate everything they do for our children and families, and for us as a whole community. I am incredibly grateful and appreciative for each and every one of them.
All of our staff are feeling the impact of this in unique ways, but their passion keeps them going each and every day. If you see them, please tell them how much you appreciate them, what you love about them, why you choose to bring your child to be in their care. Right now - every positive comment they hear is going to silence the noise out there in the world and bring a rainbow to the stormy days.
We have had individual meetings with our staff, to hear where they are at and how we can support them through this time as well. You see - we all need different things and right now my priority is to keep them going so they can help all of our children and families through this. We are all in this together.
OUR ROSTER
You will find our roster will not look the same as it has done in the past - these changes are only temporary. This is so we can survive the next 3 to 6 months.
OUR SERVICE OFFERING
We met as a management team, and brainstormed a number of ideas as well as chatting to some parents and our Educators on different ideas to implement changes.
Food
As a temporary measure we will need to have our Vacation Care children bring their own lunches. For vacation care- we will continue to provide cereals and afternoon tea. This will start Monday 13th April 2020. Just a reminder that the venue for this vacation care will be at our Hilbert Centre with only 20 spaces.
Most of our parents have been blessing us with fruit baskets and non-perishable items (out of your own) which we are so grateful and appreciate of. Thank you so much for your help with this.

Excursions and Incursions
We will not be able to continue with these (this is on hold at the moment due to Coronavirus) until after this has all passed.
Children attending
A condition of the new Government process is that we limit children attending our service based on a priority order. We are having to prioritise those needs based on what we can actually afford to roster to without running the service into the ground.
This means we need to cap the numbers of children who can actually attend at this time. Priority for attendance has been given to families in essential services, then those where both parent/guardians are working out of the home, followed by those children deemed as vulnerable, followed by parents who are working from home, and then any other needs after that.
Opening Hours
At this stage we leave the opening hour at 6:30 however from the 13th April we will be closing at 5pm and not 6pm. The change in hours is to ensure business viability in this time as we have to have two staff open and close for safety reasons.
Learning at Home
Lucinda and I will take the lead with sharing activities and ideas for you to do at home with your children and also stay connected with us at the centre so that the transition back in once this is over is easier for everyone. We do not have any expectations of you doing ANY of it - but for those who want to - it will be available for you.

Our Educators and Management team are determined to get through this and ensure that quality early education and care remains available for all our children. There will always be their home away from home where we pride ourselves in excellent care and amazing relationships.
